In honor of my favorite artist dropping his new solo album, I decided this would be a perfect time to write a blog post about it.
As many of you know, I have been a die-hard One Direction fan since the very beginning and was pretty upset when they decided to go their separate ways in 2015, which was the last time I saw them. In 2017, four out of the five band members made their debut this year, while Zayn Malik made his last year. But as we all know, Harry Styles has gone above and beyond his fellow band members releasing his first debut single of "Sign of the Times". Niall Horan has also released two new songs called "This Town" and "Slow Hands", but neither of these has reached the same levels quite as Styles did. Liam Payne will be making his debut next Friday, May 19 with his song called "Strip that Down."
This is a step forward for Styles as now he is being taken more seriously by new fans. Before, no one really listened or cared for him since he was seen as a typical boy band member and only crazed teenage girls listened to him. Now he introduces a new flare for his fans as well as making new some new ones along the way. He has caused such a frenzy that his first solo tour, Harry Styles Live On Tour sold out in seconds while having dates in selection cities throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Styles new self-titled album features nine new songs including his current hit single. His new songs all have that rock feel while going different directions than most One Direction type songs. Here you can hear Styles get a little more personal on his songs and also hear a little bit of his British accent. Personally, I love the sound this album has because this is Styles showing his real self as to One Direction where each member wrote their songs, but all shared some similar experiences with their songs. To throw some of my suggestions out there, my favorite songs are "Two Ghosts," "Kiwi," and "Woman."
According to different sources, Styles talks about his songs and the different meanings behind them. He has been quoted by a few sources saying that these songs are personal to him and have their own connections to his memories and certain people. He felt he could convey his feelings through his songs without giving away any possible hints. In the opening lines of "Two Ghosts," the lyrics start off as "Same red lips, same eyes blue/ Same white shirt, couple more tattoos." My guessing is that this could be a lyric about his former ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift where she makes a similar lyric in her song "Style" with "I got that red lip classic thing that you like." Then again, I can say anything I want and he will probably never say what each of his songs is truly about. On May 15, Styles will release his Behind the Album short film on Apple Music where he talked about the making of his new album.
