The Toronto Maple Leafs made a shocking trade. The team made the decision to trade their top forward Phil Kessel to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Personally I feel Kessel will fit perfectly with the team because he needs to be with top forwards such as Sidney Crosby and Malkin. But just because they got Kessel does not mean they will become the hockey gods they were back in 2009.
Along with that the Detroit Red Wings added right handed defenseman, Mike Green, to the team. The team had him on their radar for a while now. The team signed him for a 3 year $6 million contract, which was less than what he was making with the Washington Capitals. They also just signed center Brad Richards from the Chicago Blackhawks to a 1 year $3 million contract. Once again I think they could of gotten some one better than Richards but thats just my opinion and we will see how he does with the team in this upcoming season. This is a very weird offseason for the team because they are not used to getting top players during the offseason and many people believe that it was Mike Babcock was the reason why no players would come here. I think it probably was but there are players such as P.A Parenteau went to Toronto because of Babcock so who knows why we are getting all these players.
Chicago still has not made any trades since yesterday with the trading of Brandon Saad. The team is looking to re-sign defenseman Johnny Odyua according to Chicago Sun Times reporter, Mark Lazerus. But the team has little to no cap because of the signings of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane taking up most of it.
One of the teams to look out for next season is the Calgary Flames. Today they signed forward Michael Frolik and last week they signed defenseman Dougie Hamilton. They will probably make a threat to teams in the Western Conference I feel. They are already a good team and have good goal scorers and they will become a stronger team after those two signings.
Here is the link to all of the signings that happened today and for the rest of the season
If any other new signings that are shocking happen today I will probably make another post about it.
